K’gari (Fraser Island) Xmas 2024

We left our home in Mackay Qld on the morning of the 23rd of December with a plan to get as close to Rainbow Beach as we could. Idea was to be able to stop roadside overnight and then get fuel and onto the barge the next day as early as possible. This was so the beach wouldnt be too chopped up and also we needed to be off the beach and into Cathedrals Campground before midday. High tide was 2pm and we couldn’t take any bypass tracks as we were towing our 3.5t caravan!

Last stop before fuelling up at Rainbow Beach and getting onto the barge at Inskip Point.

We topped up the Patrol tank and put 100 litres of premium unleaded goodness into our jerry cans.

After fuelling (and ice creams, of course) we drove out to Inskip. We stopped before the sand and dropped the tyre pressures on the Patrol and van to 16psi. Surprisingly there was no barge queue and we drove across the beach and straight on board.

Setting sail for K’gari. Maxtrax on the roof and ready to be used. And we didn’t need them…
